why make bad art?
REASONS TO MAKE BAD ART
- you can't get good at art without being bad at it first
- bad art is like punk music: often the message is more important and significant than the execution
- making good art is difficult. making bad art is... not necessarily easy, but sometimes easier
- there's less barrier to entry to making bad art than good art. training whomst? never heard of her.
- you can make bad art with cheap, bullshit materials. you can make good art with cheap, bullshit materials, too, but it's harder to do sometimes
- making bad art takes the pressure off of you and allows you freedom of expression
- if you make your art bad on purpose nobody can criticize it. what are they going to say? "that art is bad"? why yes, yes it is! thank you for noticing!
- you don't need to spend a lot of money -- hell, if you have access to an office and are even a little sneaky you don't need to spend any money. pilfer
a pen and a few sheets of paper and go at it
- shit, just go to a park and draw in the dirt if you can't access anything else. the world is your canvas, buddy
- we live in a world increasingly divided into overwhelmingly rich
assholes and everyone else. said rich assholes
are competing for every second of our attention (and selling our data while they're at it) and trying to make us all think they
control every bit of art worth having. in a world where the most important asset for corporations is your attention, the fact that you can make art
with cheap or free materials is incredibly important!
- in fact, the existence of the technofeudalist corporate oligarchy in which we live actually demands that more people make amateurish, lowbrow, terrible art!
corporations don't like bad art because they can't sell it, which makes it more important than ever that we make a lot of it.
- bad art pisses off a lot of people and that's pretty useful
- bad art especially pisses off people who are very into this weird, post-9/11, neo-puritan,
trad life shit because it confuses and arouses them
and they can't put it on their aesthetic pinterest boards
- you can't fuck it up -- it's already bad
- bad art is messy and imperfect and horny and reminds us that we live in a physical world and have animals bodies that sweat and shit and eat and fuck and die
- if you get ambitious you can even collect your art into a little volume and send it out to people --
who knows who might pick it up and enjoy it?
- it's your right as a human being to make and enjoy art that isn't being gatekept by anyone, especially companies who want your money
- anyone can do it!
MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL...
